Mind Boggling Ski Conditions in Whistler

I had the pleasure of skiing 37 cm (14 inches) of fluffy, fresh powder yesterday. A few things become crystal clear on a day like that.

The first thing is that our mountains are huge! The ski patrol has an incredibly difficult job to balance between the salivating powder hound’s need and taking care of the safety for the public on the mountain through proper avalanche control. Moral of the story; don’t duck ropes to get into an area that is not open due to avalanche control. If you do this you slow down the whole process for everyone!

The next thing. With 37 fresh cm if you go fast enough you can generate face shots from even the fattest of skis. I’m starting to get a little tired of hearing that people prefer to ski on skinny skis so they can sink into the snow. Speed = faceshots no matter how fat your skis are. If you’re just learning how to ski powder remember that speed in moderation is your friend. Make sure to go straight for a bit, start to bounce and then increase your turn radius as required. The deeper the snow, the less you may need to turn.

Finally, tree skiing is great! When the wind is howling, snow is blowing sideways, you can`t see or hear your buddy next to you duck into some trees and you`ll find yourself in a nice little oasis. Take a quick breather, plot your line and then go for it! Make sure to look ahead for quick drops or areas with no trees. This will mean one thing – CLIFF. Depending on the size of the drop(s) you may be on top of a `pillow field` or an actual death inducing cliff. Proceed with care!

Blackcomb Mountain provided an amazing time yesterday and the staff did an stand-up job opening as much terrain as possible. With more snow in the forecast it promises to be a fantastic spring in Whistler.

March Madness in Whistler

Well it’s here – March.

It came in like a lion with high winds, snow and very wintry conditions.  In fact, I could barely make it out of my driveway this morning.

We have received over 1000 cm of snowfall so far this year and the current snow base is 308 cm. This makes for amazing skiing or riding from the top of our mountains all the way to the village!

March is family month with all kinds of specials for kids and parents alike. Just around the corner, April is going to offer amazing conditions and we have some amazing Whistler Accommodation Deals and packages to suit all tastes.

Make sure you don’t plan on packing the ski gear away too early this season. We are going to have fun in the mountains well into the spring!

Whistler Hotel Trip Advisor Review

Our guest services team at the Sundial Boutique Hotel is working hard to ensure each and every stay at our Whistler hotel is memorable and enjoyable. This has been translating into a number of extremely positive reviews on Trip Advisor.

In the latest review it is fantastic to see that our guests enjoyed so many of the features that make the Sundial Boutique Hotel a unique and special Whistler Village hotel including the roof top hot tub, spacious suites, and fully equipped kitchen.

“Date of review: Feb 14, 2011 – New
Our family (3 children and 3 adults) stayed the beginning of February. We stayed in a mountain view 2 bedroom on the 7th floor. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent. We had A LOT of gear since we were traveling with a baby, 2 children, and 3 adults. The front desk met us at our car, helped us unload all of our gear, and got us up to our room in no time at all. By the time I had the car parked, our gear had been delivered to our room!

The view from our room was amazing! On Sunday night we watched the “Fire and Ice” show at the base of the gondola from our window. The room was large, well laid out and handled our family in comfort. There was a nice kitchen area and we cooked dinner in the room almost every night. The roof top hot tub was in good condition and I thought it was nicer in person than in the virtual tour. We used the hot tub everyday after skiing.

We travel to Whistler yearly and have stayed in many different hotels. This was our first stay with Sundial and it will now be our #1 choice. The Sundial has the best service, location, and rooms out of all of our previous trips.

Snow Alert for Whistler!

It’s been snowing heavily for the past 24 hours here in Whistler and the forecast is calling for more through out the weekend.

If you match that with non existant lift lines, incredible hotel deals and a roof top hot tub to soothe aching muscles you have a serious recipie for fun and adventure.

The Sundial Boutique Hotel could not be based any closer to the lifts but also steps away from all the shops, spas, galleries and restaurants sprinkled throughout the pedestrian village.

Are you still trying to decide which Whistler Hotel to choose?

Why not let a testimonial from one of our past guests confirm why the Sundial Boutique Hotel may be the pertect property for your next Whistler getaway weekend or long stay vacation.

“Dear all,
We have just returned home having had a thoroughly enjoyable skiing holiday at whistler. First time for the kids and now this promises to become an annual vacation. I wanted to thank you all for your tremendous attention to our group’s manifold needs. Everyone was extremely helpful, nothing was too difficult and this all made our stay so much easier. From the front desk, to booking our restaurants, assistance in returning skis/boots, housekeeping, the janitor who helped my wife figure out the washing machines, everyone was extremely kind and helpful.
I have stayed at many hotels around the world but the “can do” attitude at the Sundial is hard to beat. Thank you all. We hope to see you again next year.”

5 out of 5 Whistler Accommodation on Trip Advisor

“Loved our stay here. Our room was on the 7th floor and looked right out to the Whistler gondola and mountain. It is a great location and the service is excellent. They take your skiis from you as you enter the lobby. The kitchen has everything that you need and the bathroom floors are heated. Loved it!”

When looking for accommodation in Whistler, we decided on the Sundial due to reviews on trip advisor. When I contacted Sundial to make a booking, I was lucky to have Daniel assist me. Sun and Snow in Whistler

We’ve had an incredible run of weather in Whistler resort so far this season. Early season storm cycles have left us with a base of 228 cm (89 in) left from a total cumulative snow fall of 789 cm (308 in). The alpine bowls are filling in nicely, the groomed runs are meticulous and you can ski to within a snowball’s throw of the Sundial Boutique Hotel. I had a fantastic day on both mountains taking advantage of the Peak to Peak gondola which has become a real game changer at this resort.

While riding the Harmony Express on Whistler Mountain I couldn’t help but notice sun hitting Seventh Heaven on Blackcomb Mountain. I was skiing by braille in the Harmony Horseshoes and decided Vitamin D was just what the doctor ordered. So, I hopped in the plush Peak to Peak cabin and within 11 minutes was standing in the alpine on Blackcomb Mountain – in the sun!

Now you could always ski down to the bottom of one mountain and hop on the lift to get back up. It only takes a few minutes to get to the bottom and roughly 25 minutes to get back into the alpine but why take 30 minutes out of your day when you can kick back and enjoy a scenic ride on one of the most spectacular lifts in the world?

Just another Monday in paradise!

Make sure you take some time to get up to Whistler and enjoy some of the fantastic Whistler accommodation deals the Sundial Boutique Hotel has on offer.

Whistler has lots of snow!

Snow Snow and more snow. We have been pleasantly surprised with more fresh light powder than was forecast. Last night we received 25cm of new snow taking our mid-mountain base to 247cm. And it has been snowing all say ! This season we have received 734cm of total snow fall which translates into nearly 24 feet.

Now is a great time to plan a mid-week escape and come up to Whistler. Book 2 nights mid-week and we will include 2 free Scandinave entrance passes. Call 1-800-661-2321 or reserve on-line.

Tiny Town Whistler

Sometimes we refer to Whistler as a small town. This is a fun video showing just how small Whistler is …. well in the “creative video old style cartoon” sense. Enjoy !

Picture Perfect!

Whistler in the winter is a picture postcard of beauty. We are two days from Christmas and the snow is falling in the village. It is great to see the smiling faces of our guests from around the world as they enjoy all Whistler has to offer. Of course, skiing and snowboarding are on the agenda, but other activities such as snowshoeing, visits to the Scandinavian Bath experience, or the Squamish ‘Lilwat Cultural Centre are also on many peoples agenda.

Everything was great. I have stayed at many hotels in Whistler and I have now found my new favourite. Not only is the location one of the best but the entire crew at Sundial was amazing. Always courteous, looked everyone in the eye, and I always found they went out of there way to take care of us.

Thanks for a great experience!

I stayed for one night in mid November and lucky me struck the first snowfall of the season – nothing like waking up in the morning to find a wonderland outside!

My room was on the top floor – well laid out, with a well equipped kitchen, nice lounge and extremely comfortable bed in the separate bedroom. Management had just replaced all the mattresses and asked for our feedback – definitely a thumbs up from me!

Staff on reception were very friendly and welcoming.
Great location right at the top of the village, at the base of Whistler Mountain.
Had a look at the hot-tub on the top floor – not a particularly appealing setting.
The small TV in bedroom was faulty – reported to reception so was hopefully repaired for next guests.

Overall a nice hotel and would definitely recommend.

Ryan was an exceptional staff member who took time to show us room options and recommend place to see and eat. His friendliness and caring attitude were welcoming. He would be the type of employee I would want representing my hotel.
